If you want to get the best of both worlds, Gold Coast is the perfect get away! This city is not called the “Gold Coast” for no reason. Here we have everything from endless white beaches, skyscrapers, pulsing nightlife and beautiful nature – everything within walking distance.
In my opinion, the Gold coast is a necessary stop if you are travelling to Australia. Never have I ever seen sand as white and fine as here! They are actually shipping sand from here to Hawaii, which I think says a lot about how beautiful the beaches here are!
I have put together a little Gold Coast guide, just in case you are planning to come here anytime soon. Enjoy!
Burleigh Heads National Park
What to see and do
Burleigh Heads National Park/Tallebudgera Creek – Make sure to stop by Burleigh Heads and check out the national park. There is some AMAZING lookouts there, that you simply cannot miss! You also get the perfect view of Tallebudgera Creek, which has to be my favourite beach here on the Gold Coast.
Q1 – You should definitely make sure to take a trip to the top of Australia’s tallest building while you are here! It is located right next to the beach and it has a 360 degrees view with a classy bar in the middle. I recommended buying a cocktail or two while soaking up the amazing view!
Surfers Paradise – Are you a first time visitor? Then you should definitely stop by Surfers Paradise! Surfers is very touristy, so you might go crazy if you stay there for a longer period of time, but it’s something special about the atmosphere that you have to experience.
The Spit – This is probably one of my favourite beaches. It is a permanent sand spit that separates the Southport Broadwater from the Pacific Ocean. If you want, you can take a walk on the pier to the lighthouse. It is not uncommon to see both turtles, dolphins and whales there. I have to say it is a “off lease” beach, so be prepared if you are afraid of dogs!
Main Beach – Do you want to spend a day at the beach while you are here? If the answer is YES – go to Main Beach! This area is not as busy as Surfers or Broadbeach, but the beach is still gorgeous! This is also where a lot of suffers prefer to surf, so maybe you get to see a handsome surfer or two.
Killarney Glen – The Gold Coast has more to offer than just beaches. Rent a car and go explore the hidden gem of Beechmont. Killarney Glen is a heart shaped rock pool hidden in the woods and it is a must-see!
Snappers Rock – This is a famous surf break down in Coolangatta and you are guaranteed to spot some handsome surfers if you take the trip.
Shopping – Who had thought that a beach town like the Gold coast also offer some great shopping opportunities? You can find everything from high-end designers like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Gucci and others in Surfers Paradise, small boutiques in Burleigh Heads, or big shopping centres in Broadbeach and Robina. The GC has something for everyone!
The Greenhouse Factory
Where to eat
The Greenhouse Factory, Miami – Are you after a fancy vegan dinner with wine and cocktails? Then this is the place to go! They recently moved their restaurant from Coolangatta to Miami and upgraded their menu. Now they serve everything you can think of from the sea, vegan cheeses and so much more.
The Cardamonpod, Broadbeach – If you are after breakfast, this is the restaurant for you! They are famous for serving delicious vegan waffles and pancakes. YUM!
Govindas, Surfers Paradise – This restaurant is located in the middle of surfers Paradise and they have the best vegan Indian buffet! It is also very inexpensive, which always is good! You can eat as much as you want for $14. I think that is a pretty damn good deal!
Burleigh Farmers Marked – Every Saturday from 6am until 12pm, the farmers marked is on in Burleigh Heads. It is located at the Burleigh Heads High School and you can buy everything from freshly squeezed cane sugar juice to dumplings. This is also the place to go iff you want some fresh fruits and veggies.
Where to go out
Broadbeach – There is so many clubs located in this area, but one of my favourites is ‘LOVE’. It is classy, inexpensive, good music and a good vibe.
Surfers Paradise – If you want to go out on the Gold Coast, this is the place 99.9% of the clubs are located. If you are after something very “clubby” I would recommend ‘The Bedroom’, ‘Cocktails’, ‘Shooters’ and ‘Sin-City’. If you are after something a little bit more “chill”, ‘Elsewhere’, ‘Beergarden’ or ‘Waxys’ is the place to go.
Where to stay
The Gold Coast is full of different places to stay. You can find everything from hostels, camping, hotels, resorts and RBNB’s. What to choose really depends on your budget, and what you want. I would probably recommend renting an apartment in a resort. It is not that expensive and you usually get more than if you rent a room in a hotel.
